Online shopping has become a popular trend over the past several years. However, when it comes to sari shopping we prefer to shop in person most of the time. It’s best done this way because that’s where the true results are obtained in great fashion. Even though most big cities feature a “Little India” street or section overpouring with clothes and jewelry stores, it has for everyone in the West to relate to this. If you live in a non-desi populated area then unless you travel to those cities or back home often you will have to resort to the internet to get your shopping done. The question is however, where to begin? Here are some websites you may want to check out!
http://www.homeindia.com AND http://www.cbazaar.com
Both websites are operated by the same company. They also have a sister site: http://www.chennaibazaar.com where you can send gifts. CBazaar.com features an extensive range of saris, shalwar kameez, and even men and kids wear. HomeIndia.com also carries the same saris but extends their line to lenghas, including bridal lenghas, and shararas. Both sites also sell jewelry.
UtsavSarees carries a wide and extensive range of saris, shalwar kameez, lenghas, and menswear plus they also sell jewelry, footwear, handbags, and home decor. They make their site navigation easier by allowing the shopper to browse by color, material, look, and even occasion!
If Bollywood, is what’s on your mind then this is the place to shop. They have hundreds of popular outfits from many Bollywood movies. Some recent and popular ones include Jodhaa Akbar, Om Shanti Om, Aaja Nachle, Saawariya, Jab We Met, and Heyy Baby plus many more from older films. Watch out because their clothes tend to be a bit pricey but if you’re determined to look like Rani or Aishwarya then this is your shopping site!
This site hasn’t been updated in ages! There search feature no longer works properly. In addition, it’s very difficult to navigate the site especially without the search function. They have many sister sites including BollywoodOutfits.com which doesn’t seem to work lately either! But if you do happen to find something you like they’ll customize if for you and ship it straight from India.
This site used to be much better. At one point they even used to sell saris. Now they sell Western clothes, caftans, and yoga wear. Seems like their collection has just gotten worse rather than improving. However, they still have a few shalwar kameez left which can tend to be pricey but if you’re a first time user they’ll give you a $15 gift certificate and shipping on orders of $50 or more is free. They also customize your outfits for you and ship them within a few days from India.
