Curry Puffs are a favorite at snack times and with tea. They are very simple to make with just a few ingredients on hand. The original recipe calls for “curry powder.” We recommend using homemade curry powder. If you don’t have any on hand simply substitute the curry powder with ground coriander, cumin, and turmeric. The dough in this recipe can also be used to make sweet puffs. Instead of filling the dough with the ground beef mixture, use jam, preserves, or any other filling of your choice.
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. curry powder
4 oz. ground beef
1 small onion
green chillies, to taste
salt, to taste
2 tbsp. ghee or oil
3 tbsp. butter
Make a dough with water, flour, 1 tbsp. butter, baking powder, and salt.
Finely chop the onion and fry in oil until lightly browned. Add beef, curry powder, and salt. Cook the mixture until dry. Add chopped green chillies.
Divide the dough into balls. Roll each out. Spread butter on each. Cut each circle into four pieces. Place the beef mixture in on each piece. Fold and crempe the edges. Beat the egg and spread some on each puff.
Place the puffs on a greased tray and bake at 400 degrees until browned.
