What Will You Wear on Eid?

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Whenever someone asks me this question I am thinking of the color of my outfit. However, many people answer “clothes.” Very funny…but now all jokes aside what type of outfit will you wear and do you think there is any popular color for this Eid or season? Do you prefer saris or salwar kameez? Some believe Eid outfits should be simple and for those believers out there I just have one question…why? Wedding Season Part Two

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Winter, although not as popular as summer, is the second most highly chosen time of the year to get married. Of course, some of you may be tired from all the weddings you attend over the summer but those are long gone and fall has well set in. With winter holidays setting in December becomes another popular month to get married.

Winter weddings are also fun. You get to wear thicker heavier fabrics and don’t have to worry about breaking a sweat. It’s a great opportunity to wear velvet as well as heavy silk saris. Since you won’t already be feeling weighed down by the summer heat, the cooler months allow you to dress more excessively.

Net saris maybe in style but they’re not exactly appropriate for the cold weather months so put them away till it gets a bit warmer again and get shopping for more appropriate clothing.

A great start is to pair your saris with long-sleeved blouses. Don’t forget a matching shawl to keep you warm. Also keep in mind to opt for darker, richer colors and stay away from the pastels!

Not only do some people feel uncomfortable in them but it also doesn’t suit all types of women. So if net isn’t for you try silk or bandhani. Traditional saris come in very handy when you don’t have any current trends. Keep a few as essentials in your wardrobe for those times when you can’t go shopping. Silk saris are heirlooms that will never go away and they’re perfect for weddings. Bandhani saris are fun and great for parties.

The Narrow Pallu

Monday, July 27th, 2009

The narrow pallu is nothing new. Though not often seen it has been around for a while. Think Shilpa Shetty. So why isn’t it exactly popular. Well, who has the perfect figure to pull it off! I found some saris with narrow, butterfly pallus in net fabric and in a lengha style pre-stiched style as well. Wow, that’s a lot!

The narrow pallu sari is for the daring young lady and not a choice for those who dress more conservatively. It’s quite revealing and appealing and very Bollywood.
